The Upper Juniors view the amazing Performance of Macbeth

On Friday 16 October the year 5/6 children went to see a performance of Macbeth. It was a performance designed especially for children and was performed at the Hexagon theatre in Reading. The story is about someone who is a good and kind man who becomes blinded by the thought of power.
This play was written by Shakespeare and here are some opinions of him and the play.Izzy said''The play was brilliant''and Lissadell said that "Shakespeare was a great writer".Yasmin thought the play was fascinating.Everybody enjoyed the play and a lot of people said that it would be easier to watch the play rather than read it.

The Isle of Wight Children Report Their Adventure

On Monday 14 September Year 6 boarded the coach and ferry to the Isle of Wight. Their accommodation was at a place called Eastdene. The dormitories had beds from six to eight. Children were split into three groups, A, B and C. Jason said he really liked the food. They visited lots of interesting including Osborne House and Carisbrook Castle. They did lots of outdoor activities like survival challenge and a eight and a half mile walk. All the year sixes had a great time and are happy and well.

Trip to Townlands

On the 3rd of June Mrs.McNaughton's class (Year 6) went to Townlands. We learnt how to deal with someone if they are unconscious and the different things you should do if they are breathing or not. They showed us some medical equipment and even tested a plaster cast on our fingers! We also had a tour of the hospital and visited the minor-injuries department. It was very interesting but I still don't want to be a nurse when I grow up.

Year six go to the Isle of Wights

Isle of Wight Activities   

During the week we did loads of activities on the Isle of Wight. They included survival (making shelters and camp fires), beach (erosion of cliffs and how it became a habitat for monks hundreds of years ago) and a village study (a walk with a talk), woodland challenge (crawling under netting, through tyres, etc and ‘save the dummy’), raft building (plastic barrels, ropes and planks of wood), rock pooling and an eight mile hike- PHEW!

It was very enjoyable and exciting.

The history of the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is one of the most famous islands in the British Isles, for example it is a perfect hiding place for smugglers and a good place for them to store their smuggled goods.

Queen Victoria also had a holiday home in the Isle of Wight called Osborne House where she enjoyed many summers with her family. Carisbrooke Castle was the prison of King Charles 1st during the English Civil War.

It was also a vital defensive point in case of attack by other countries in times of war. The Normans (France)were some of the first people to settle on the island first coming to a beach called Monks Bay, named after the monks who came there to settle.

Our trip to the Isle of Wight -- East Dene

This year our Year 6 children went to the Isle of Wight in September. We stayed in East Dene in the village of Bonchurch.

East Dene is a beautiful Victorian mansion with some old walls and stained glass windows. It has lovely natural surroundings and it is home to some very rare red squirrels. The dormitories are brilliant and some of them have a very old and interesting history. It was really nice and homely. It was the best house ever!
